RLD focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body. It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc(Hon). Sally is a multi-award-winning reflexology practitioner researcher, educator and author.

RLD was developed when Sally worked in Cancer Care. Many patients had been treated for breast cancer and suffered from secondary lymphoedema in the arm(s). Reflexology treatments were adapted to each patient’s needs resulting in decrease in volume in the arm(s), increased comfort and arm mobility. Clothing and jewellery seemed looser after the treatment.  Measurements of the arm(s) before and after each treatment showed a decrease in volume.

Seeing these results, RLD was further developed and formalised. Executed on the feet, the treatment is tailored to support the affected limb, be it the arm(s) or leg(s). Research found that RLD shows physical and psychological benefits and the treatments helped participants to re-engage with normal life.

RLD has since received worldwide recognition and many practitioners have found that RLD not only benefits lymphoedema but many other conditions as well. Lipoedema patients do not experience the same volume loss as happens with lymphoedema but there is increased comfort and less pain.

Through clinical experience, it has been found that many non-cancer related conditions also benefit from RLD and/or when RLD is incorporated within a ‘normal’ Reflexology treatment. Patients with auto-immune conditions, such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, allergies, migraines and many other inflammatory disorders benefit.

Besides these, many reflexologists see clients being supported for the following as well:

  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Sinus problems
  • Headaches
  • Muscle tension
  • Aches and pains
  • PMS

Working the lymphatic system helps to stimulate it which helps to flush waste materials and toxins out of the body.
