Reflexology and Reiki

A treatment is deeply, deeply relaxing and supports the body to improve the functioning of all systems. With improved blood and lymph circulation as well as increased nerve supply to all cells, nutrients flow easily, and toxins and waste materials are eliminated instead of being stagnant. This helps cellular health.

Definition

  • Anxiety is a feeling of fear, worry or unease and may be a reaction to stress.
  • Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

Two main forms of stress:

  • Biological stress
The nervous system plays a crucial role in the body’s stress-related mechanisms as does the endocrine system which produces our hormones. There is an immune response to stress as excessive production of cortisol, the stress hormone, weakens the activity of the immune system which makes us susceptible to illness. Illness is not limited to a nose cold.

    • Chronic stress
This is when prolonged tension is present such as in relationship problems. With high level and long term stress, healthy cells change and may cause various physical manifestations such as asthma, back pain, heart problems, stroke, fatigue, headaches, irritable bowel and sometimes even cancer.
  • Psychological stress
Stress can enhance function when faced with a short term physical or mental challenge such as in sport or challenging work. However, persistent stress may lead to distress and anxiety.
